I have an OfficeJet Pro K5400 and I recently purchased some refill cartridges for it. This is the printer that has separate Cartridges from it's printheads. I found that the XL Black Cartridge 88 fit and worked fine. However, I found that the smaller cartridges, did not fit properly. They would slide in, and then start "Pushing" back out. I noticed that the notches on the side weren't long enough to provide a secure fit. I exchanged for "another" brand and the notches were better, but the base of the cartridge was wobbly. Again, I examined the base and noticed that the notches on the base weren't wide enough. Is there a refill cartridge somewhere that will actually fit this printer? Many say they do but don't really. In the meantime it looks like I can use the "Black" cartridges, but I have to use HP's original Color cartridges which run about $15 each. Any Suggestions or ideas?

Usually fill cartridges are name brands that have been refilled, reprogrammed, then the company sticks their own logo on it.

You should double-check that you're getting the correct cartridge.

Places like Staples offer cartridge refilling in their stores if you bring your own in. You could buy official HP cartridge, then bring it in to get refilled, that way you know it fits. They also usually offer $3 or so per used cartridge if you bring them in. So you can get your HP cartridge for $12 instead of $15.

I'm getting the right ones. These cartridges are unique because they don't actually contain the print heads. There are 4 of them.. one for black, one for Cyan, Magenta, and Yellow. They are just ink tanks and refilling them doesn't look like it would be too difficult. The problem is that they have chips on them that contain code that indicates the date. They will automatically expire within 2 years. The refill tanks I received are the "correct" ones for the printer but they just don't fit securely. I'm worried in using them that air bubbles will get into the print heads which are separate and a bit more expensive to replace. You can check out the printer on HP's website at hp "dot com". It's the HP OfficeJet Pro K5400. It's an extremely fast printer but the ink tanks are still fairly new for it although you can by a continually inking system for the printer.
