I recently purchased the 160GB Apple TV and have been having major difficulties in using it. I bought it so I could download TV shows for my son. Here's the problem. When I purchase shows on the Apple TV, it downloads them and everything is great. Then I fire up my MacBook Pro to do some work. In the background, iTunes downloads all the shows from the Apple TV and deletes them from the Apple TV. When I go to watch a show with my son, the shows are no longer on the Apple TV and I need to fire up my laptop in order to play them.

Believe it or not, I do not want a season of "Blue's Clues" eating all the capacity on my Macbook, nor do I want to fire up my laptop to play a show for my son. I want all movies/shows that I purchase on the Apple TV to stay on the Apple TV. Is this possible???

Ho do I set this up so that content purchased on the Apple TV stays on the Apple TV? I understand that part of the reason for synching to the macbook is to backup the purchases. That is not a big deal to me and I would rather take a chance at losing "Blues Clues" than having to store it on my hard drive on my Macbook Pro.

Open iTunes on your MacBook Pro, click the Apple TV icon that will pop up in your sidebar, and turn off automatic sync (or set it to manual sync only). This will ensure that iTunes won't do anything to your Apple TV's contents that you don't initiate. I have it set the same way on mine.
