I have a problem. I have student laptops that are set as just Standard users. When they try to print to a LaserJet 3600dn, the printer just sits on "Processing Word Document - blah.doc" for several minutes before actually printing. Every 3 or 4 prints an error document comes out saying that PCL PostScript emulation had errors.
I was thinking it might be the printer, but when I print from my personal laptop everything works just fine. Apparently this happened "all of the sudden," the teacher and students never had any problems before and no updates have been installed. So I'm going back to thinking it might be the printer.
I'll have to wheel over another 3600 to know for sure, but does anyone have any troubleshooting tips for me in the mean time?

Can you just turn PostScript Emulation off?

I'm assuming the printer is connected to a wireless router, and all the computers communicate via the wireless connection.
Do the student laptops have 802.11b/g while your personal laptop has 802.11n capability? If a nearby source of interference has appeared, it may be creating high packet losses on the student channel(s), while your personal laptop sails by above the noise. Or your personal laptop may have higher transmission strength.
Try setting the router to different channels, and check if anyone nearby has set up something wireless of their own.

No because the laptops don't have PCL drivers.

Hmm, that's a possibility. The wireless was extraordinarily slow. Unfortunately I don't have access to the routers because I'm just a tech. We have two district network people who manage that stuff. I'll fire off an email.

Turns out it was a misbehaving switch. Over the winter break we moved all our equipment to a new HP switch we installed and everything went back to normal. Wireless & LAN speeds were top speed and printing works like a charm.
The old switch was dropping packets left and right so when/if they ever got to the printer, it'd either take several hours, get a PostScript error half way through, or it wouldn't print at all.
