I am confused… the Apple Store configuration page for the Mac Pro shows this:

So, what's the difference between Apple Keyboard with Numeric Keypad and Apple Keyboard?

The Apple Keyboard now looks the same as the wireless number pad-less keyboard. The Apple Keypad with Numeric Keypad is the full-sized regular wired keyboard.

To clarify:

Wired regular sized keyboard
Wired small keyboard
Wireless small keyboard

Obviously a number pad increases keyboard power consumption by 10x.

On the new iMacs, the crippled keyboard is standard -- but if you BTO it from Apple, there is no charge to upgrade to the full keyboard.

It's been speculated this is to encourage people to buy directly, instead of through Amazon, etc. The relatively small change could produce a decent uptick in revenue. People buy a lot of iMacs.

Whereas those of us who don't care what keyboard it comes with since we're just keeping our old wireless regular sized keyboards, from back when Apple used to make them, will continue buying from wherever gives the best deal.

Ticking sound coming from a .pkg package? Don't let the .bom go off! Inspect it first with Pacifist. Macworld - five mice!

Aren't these new Apple Keyboards (sans the keypad) setup so they can do the keypad arrangement that laptops commonly do? Starting at the U key and going right? Not that I ever do it that way, but its there isn't it?

Doing that sucks. Full number pads are much better.
12" iBook G4 / Tiger 10.4.11 / 1.2 GHz PowerPC G4 / 512 MB RAM / 30 GB HD / 32 MB Radeon 9200
22" WS / Vista Home Premium SP1 32-Bit / 2.4 GHz Core 2 Quad / 3 GB RAM / 500 GB HD / 512 MB Radeon HD 4850
iPod touch 2G / Version 3.0 / 8 GB

So, is the wireless support better these days? I have one of the white Bluetooth keyboards and it sucks. The range is very poor, and once you lose the signal, you have to manually connect via the Sys Prefs or reboot. Now it sits in storage, and I use a wired Mac keyboard instead.

Yeah, now where's the wireless KB with numeric pad?

No numeric KB on a wired KB? They might as well have launched the Blue Dalmatian KB.

I never had much problem with it. When it did inexplicably drop it would usually reconnect automatically within a few seconds.
