The drive in my MacPro 1.1 with the system and application on is failing and I need to replace it via Time Machine. This I'm fairly sure I can deal with BUT I am unable to determine which type of new SATA drive I should use. Installed one is SATA II - are all more modern versions interchangeable?

Yes. Any 3.5" SATA drive will work fine.

Yes, all 3.5" SATA drives are compatible with your Mac Pro.

SATA II is people. SATA II was a committee, not a drive standard. Any drive that claims to be SATA II is mislabeled.
