I have 10.5.6 on a Feb 2007 iMac. I am using a HP Photosmart C5180 All-In-One. The printer is connected to a USB hub and then to the iMac.
The printer doesn't print. No test page, not able to clean, no errors. Below is a screen shot of the printer status screen :
Trust me, the printer does not print even though it shows completed.
Under the HP Utilities I cannot even get the cleaning or test page to work. The funny thing was, is that we had this problem the other day, I fooled around for a bit trying new settings and got it to work again. Now, I'm not sure if this is since 10.5.6 or not. I tend to think no, but I'm not 100% sure. As with all such events, guarantee ran out about two months ago.
So, expert HP printer troubleshooting gurus, what now? Disconnect, delete drivers, reinstall, what?
EDIT : swapped from a hub connection to direct on the iMac and managed to print 9 lines of a two page document. Tried different USB ports on the iMac with no luck.
Getting this when I try cleaning :
Reckon that the printer is dead after the 9 lines printing thing.

First thought: printer cable bad. Second, printer bad. This sucks, to be sure. Is the printer under warranty?

Check the cable first.
Then I would try to print directly from camera and/or from a Windows PC. If that fails, you know the printer is at fault.

I've been through every HP tech support doc pertaining to my printer and the Mac and I've managed to print the last three lines of a three page doc. Marvelous.
Not sure if its under guarantee or not, bought last May. Think that I'm SOL.
Cable eh? Sounds like it could be the culprit. I'll try and test with my MacBook, I don't have a Windows box in the house. I'll also try a memory card. Cheers for the advice guys.
Never know how much you need a printer until you don't have one.

Printing from a memory card worked. I'll get another cable and test it.

Weirdness continues. Connected the printer to my MacBook, printed no sweat.
I'm having some ' issues' atm on the iMac, hope its nothing serious.

Reinstall the HP drivers on the iMac. Go to the Install DVD/System/Installation/Packages and find the HP pkg. Afterwards, do a permissions repair for the heck of it.
