Hi all

I have searched and researched on Macnn and beyond but I am struggling to get confirmation of which B&W laser printer can sit on our LAN and scan documents from its ADF to a Mac Server folder.

Hoping that someone with real-world experience can give me confirmation of manufacturer & model...

It's for a small business so budget is up to £700 - $1000 or so.

I would be very grateful for any help.

We're very happy with our Kyocera FS-1118 MFP at our office. Although we don't scan to ftp, but rather scan to e-mail (our network does not allow for ftp connections). A quick google tells me it's well within your budget. The only thing I'm missing is duplex scanning and printing.

We rely on it heavily to scan our notes for save keeping and sharing them with our collaborators.

Thanks v much - are the Mac print drivers straight-forward or do they require huge Kyocera driver installations?

It's a postscript printer (Postscript 3, to be exact), so there are no special drivers. You will need to install the PPD files (Kyocera's installer is a `one-for-all package' that will try to install PPDs of most of their printers in many different languages, and this is bigger). If you want, you can extract the PPD and install it on your Macs `by hand.' Or, if you're lazy, you can use the generic Postscript driver, but I'd recommend to install the PPD.

They also have a scan application, although I've never used it.

OreoCookie can you help me out with something?

I took your advice and bought the Kyocera and it prints well and fast so happy with that.

But I cannot get it to scan to email... I have set up all the SMTP details in Command Centre and have checked they all work (and the Command Centre test of the details comes up as OK) but it always fails at the machine with error 3101 which is SMTP authorisation according to the advanced manual.

Can you suggest anything?

Thanks, W
