Has anyone tried any of the recently released "pico projectors" out there with their iPod/iPhone? They seem like good way to share videos and photos, but I've held off so far because the first generation devices from Optoma and 3m didn't seem cost-effective for leisure use.

Recently a ton of announcements for new pocket projectors have been flooding tech blogs, but there are so many out there and I can't really tell which one would work best with an iPod Touch 2G. I don't need anything fancy, just something small that is easy to tote around, that's battery powered, and can project a 30-40" image on a wall or ceiling so I can watch movies and TV shows during breaks. A built-in speaker would be great so that I don't have to use headphones all the time.

Anybody here have first hand experience with these things?

I remember seeing the AAXA featured in the NY Times recently. They didn't have any "action" shots so I'm glad you posted an actual projected image. The P1 is definitely one of the few I would spend money on since it's got a lot of extras for the same price or less than the older designs from Optoma and 3m. I think I'm going to be ordering one in the next couple days... anyone else have experience with it?

Found a recent and thorough review for the AAXA P1.

FINALLY... the AAXA P1's just came off backorder (they said the recent reviews boosted demand quite a bit)... and MINE is on it's way!!

I can't wait for it to come in and play with it. I'm going to compare it with using a buddies full-size projector. I'm sure it won't have a comparable level of brightness, but I need something I can carry around that I don't have to plug into the wall.

I know some of you have been waiting for these to come off backorder too... l'll work on a little write up and we can compare notes.

Please feel free to PM me about the projector if you're interested

BTW, does anyone know if the Apple has any pans to do full screen mirroring anytime soon? I guess it's not a big deal since I'd need to have the Touch in my hand to operate it anyways, but it would still be cool to be able to see everything projected anyways.

I've always liked the ability to project stuff off my laptop, but those big ones are just so darn expensive *sob*. This totally looks like an affordable alternative, has anyone had any more experience with this unit?

I'm waiting for them to get down to the $99 range. I've been wanting to build a projected gaming board for D&D for quite some time, but I just can't justify buying a full size projector (not to mention the cost of the bulbs.)
