So i picked up a new 1TB WD HDD "Mac Edition", specifically cause i like the look of the case and the color of the light.

So within 3-4 days i noticed this scratch/mark on the case, and needless to say, my OCD flared up. So far the drive's performance has been great(25-29MB/s, which is the best i've seen from a USB 2.0 dirve), but this mark is annoying me.

Knowing how unpredictable the quality of external drives can me, should i try and get it exchanged or just stick with it ?

Cheers

I couldn't decide - it may be an issue for you.

Me, I tend to *use* my drives extensively, and anything that's not screwed into the 19" rack gets banged about. I really wouldn't care.

As long as it doesn't affect performance, I think you should look past this scratch.
You'll get a scratch sooner or later anyways...

If you don't like the scratch then why did you mishandle it, thus leading to this scratch?

Any defect that affects the actual hard drives function is unacceptable.
Cosmetic defects on the casing of external hard drives are perfectly fine IMO.

There wasnt a scratch for me not to like while i was mishandling it

but in all seriousness.... i didn't mishandle it. it came straight out of the packaging and plugged into the computer. thats it.

I'd bet that since you bought this enclosure due to it's aesthetics you looked it over when you received it and liked what you saw. I doubt you received it like that and failed to notice it.

if you did scratch it you should keep it and take your lump...if you really did receive it I think you should return it. Was the shipping box it came it damaged? How about the packaging within the shipping box? I'd return it...unless I damaged it myself

The packaging is completely intact, no sign of mishandling. if anything, the only metallic things i have around the unit are USB cable-ports and the MacBook. It looks like a manufacturing error more than something i might have done though.

Then I'd try to exchange it...
