hi...just got an advc100 off ebay to use with my macbook. my understanding is that with a firewire connection, you don't have to have the power adaptor, and it didn't come with an adapter. but when i plug the firewire into my mac and push the power button, nothing happens.
so my questions are...
--might i have the wrong firewire (and if so, would it plug into my computer/the converter okay, which it does?)
--was i wrong to think you don't need an adapter if you have the firewire?
--since i haven't plugged any of my analog devices into the converter, could that be why it's not turning on?
any help much appreciated!

It's been a few years since I used one, but the last time I used it successfully, I used the front smaller FireWire port and the rear A/V ports (it probably does both features from both sides, but that's how mine worked best for my physical setup). However, I had the AC adapter it shipped with. If I recall, the ADVC lights up bright blue underneath the button when on, with or without analog A/V connected.

The mini port does not draw power from the FireWire bus, though, so if you're using that one, go for the larger 6-pin one instead, which should power it. Hopefully that's the issue!
