OK, I have decided on a 1+ TB backup external drive. Which ones do you recommend?

Here are some possibilities:

1. Seagate Freeagent

2. Western Digital MyBook.

Any other recommendations?

I would prefer firewire, although it's not absolutely necessary. And 7200 rpm is a plus. Reliability comes first however. Thanks!

Excellent question. I own an independent Apple consulting company here in Florida where many of our clients ask the same thing. Two factors to consider - price and value of your data. If your budget will allow, there is no better solution than G-Drive. they are not cheap, but have the best design, internally as well as externally. Very serious equipment here. If budget is a concern, Western Digital is also an excellent choice. We use these in plenty of installations as well. LaCie has always had a reputation for quality but honestly, we have seen an incredibly high number of failures with LaCie products over the last two - three years and we steer away from them. they notoriously lose power supplies... to the point, LaCie has given us spares to keep on hand 'unofficially', for when we are onsite dealing with a failed drive.

So, G-Drive first, WD second.

I've always had good results with Seagate drives. One time I needed to take advantage of the 5 year warranty (3 years into ownership). Seagate was great to work with.

I've had great success with EZQuest hard drives. Too had to use their service department only once with very satisfactory results. I use two of their drives, one with a built-in power source rather than a footprint making brick.

I just purchased a 750 GB Seagate drive. I'm having second thoughts about this, as I've nearly filled up a 500 GB drive, and I think it would take me less than a year to fill up an additional 250 GB's. I buy so many CD's and rip them at a high bitrate, the drive filled up rather quickly.

I'm thinking about returning it and getting the larger sized drive. I paid less than $100 for the 750 gigger. A good deal?

As I told you in your other thread, for $100 you should be getting more. A fast 1TB drive plus an enclosure is $90. For $135 you could have 1.5 TB and an enclosure.
