I just read through a couple old threads re: portable surge protection, but I thought I'd ask about current thinking and products.

At home I normally have my MBP plugged into a surge protector. I've also had a one or two outlet portable protector for travel but I need to replace my last one, a Tripp Lite Traveler.

What surge protector do you use for your Mac notebook?

I'm curious why you're so concerned and would recommend buying a reputable brand with an equipment guarantee (e.g. they pay you if your stuff gets damaged). Whichever surge protector has that and is cheapest is the one I'd go with.

TrippLite first, then APC. I've been in situations where "commercial power" was a joke and EVERYTHING electronic needed a surge protector or UPS. Since you can get one of these portable/traveler suppressors for something like $20 or less, it's a good investment.

But as cgc suggests, make sure whatever one you get, that it has a good warranty-which both TrippLite and APC do. They also have a nice history of properly honoring their warranties and public images to uphold, so if something does happen, they're really likely to pay up.
