My Firelite 120 GB hardrive has stopped showing up on the desktop. It doesn't show up in disk utilities either...Any ideas?

-Thanks

Sounds like either the enclosure or the HD is dead--presuming you've tried different cables so as to rule out a defective cable?

well, when I googled that model, up pops an amazon.com page with several comments about the drive just up-and-dying.

Yup, sounds like the drive died.

I haven't tested another cable, but will do so as soon as I can. Also, it's not like it has never worked before, these past few weeks its performance has been sketchy and now it doesn't show up at all... I really hope it's not dead I've got like 80 movies on it!!!

well, the HD could be OK, the enclosure might've gone bad. If you've got another external case, just do a switch and see what happens.

Your drive was dying then, and now it's dead. Sorry. The same thing happened to me recently.

before jumping to conlusion, make sure that all cables in the working condition, then check the enclosure itself can be a problen, try different enclosure or you can also remove the drive from the enclosure and hook the hard drive up to the computer as a slave - see what happens. If the pic is the same and the hard drive is dead, the big quiestion is the files you had on it. If data is important to you, I can suggest data recovery company, the one I used myself, when the drive got dead - in Canada - databe.com, they did everything A+ for very reasonable price, their web-link: Data Recovery for Desktop, Laptop, Notebook Computer or External Hard Drive, I'm sure they'll be able to help. If data is not an issue, and HDD in warranty - get a new piece.
