Hey Everyone,

I'm looking for advice on a simple video capturing devices for under $100 to transfer VHS tapes to the computer and eventually to DVD. I've seen Hauppauge's Mac-specific one, but it has terrible reviews everywhere (not to mention, it's just their older hardware rebranded for Mac and a premium slapped on top). This one from StarTech has great reviews and slightly better than average resolution support, but is only certified for Windows, so I don't know if the device will work or not (often, even though specified for Windows, they'll still work just fine as a generic USB capturing device).

Any thoughts/suggestions?

Elgato makes good products in this space. Also, you may be able to do it through your video camera. I doubt you can get one anymore, but when I bought my camcorder, I made sure it had composite and s-video inputs for doing just this, going through the camera, out to Firewire and in to iMovie.
