My 24" white iMac has, so the hardware profiler, the following Superdrive: MATSHITA DVD-R UJ-85J:

It doesn't tell me what the maximum recommended burn speed is.

So far, I used 2.4x Verbatim dual layer DVDs, but there 8x Verbatim DL discs that are equally good (and would burn faster).

Can I use 8x discs on my Superdrive?

note: I'm talking of Verbatim DL discs made in Singapore ( 0% coasters), not the lesser quality made in India.

I searched the web and found the maximum burn speed for dual layer DVDs to be 4x.

So I'm going to stick with the 2.4x Verbatim DVD+R DL.

Those 8x burn speeds are probably for dedicated DVD burners, not for slim combination drives.
