The AV teacher at my work would like to buy a backup camera to their nice high end one. His budget is $500. I had trouble finding any comparison reviews on Google, so I'm posting here.
I know absolutely nothing about video cameras. He says he would like one with a HDD. He says he also likes Sony because it's the only brand that the kids haven't been able to break off the buttons and switches.

I found a website that ranks HDD based camcorders. Sent him the link, I'll let him figure it out.

What resolution does he require? If he needs 1080p in the backup, choices at $500 will be constrained. And probably no internal HD based on the newegg selection. If he is OK with 720p in the backup, then the choices open up.
Resolution isn't too important, the camera is used for morning student announcements (broadcasted on standard def TVs.) He decided on a Sony HD recorder.
