Working one evening, my macbook pro 15" suddenly gained diagonal pixel lines and grew extremely hot, everything froze and in a day I had the news that the logic board needs to be replaced and it costs exactly same as a mac mini and I don't think spending 90% of the resale value of a product to fix it is a bright Idea. Especially after I heard that it has only 3 months warranty. Is there any suggestions ? or workarounds ? like some other company board ?

Have you checked to see whether this issue is covered by an Apple repair program? It sure sounds like the kind of thing that was covered-and that means that Apple will replace the logic board for free.

The standard warranty is 1 year, anyway (though perhaps it’s shorter for refurbs).

It was bought on Dec 24`th of 2006 and I had not taken the extended warranty. So that leaves me with a 1 year warranty which ended on Dec 2007. Is there any other program that Im not aware of ?

Apple has had a number of programs to address their use of (unbeknownst to them) faulty video components that go on to fail. Your issue sounds like one of those. For example, read this thread about an MBP with a faulty video system. Or you could read this Apple article about bad NVIDIA graphics systems as an example of the kinds of programs I'm talking about. Better yet, read both.

Refurbs come with the same standard 1-year "Apple Limited Warranty" a regular new Mac comes with. And you can purchase regular AppleCare for a refurb too.

There are several shops out there that will, for a flat fee, fix anything wrong with your computer. For example, Blue Raven will fix your system for $479. Their repairs come with an inclusive 30 day warranty and a 180 day parts warranty. It's where we send our non-warranty repair work because, as you found out, the parts are way too expensive when you try to do out-of-warranty work. They're not the only ones out there-check around and I'm sure you'll find others.
