Yesterday I purchased and installed the new apple Magic Mouse(which takes some getting used to, but so far i really like it) and now if I do not have my speakers or headphones plugged into my MBP the sound icon is grayed out in the menu bar. Is there a way to fix this?

Thanks!

I would doubt that it had something to do with adding the mouse software to your machine.

When nothing is plugged into the audio out port, do you see a red light in it? Your audio out could be stuck in optical mode. I don't recall the solution to this, but others may be able to help.

Guess I finally got that fifth star!

The solution is a paperclip inserted in there and poking around.. However, this seldom works. It usually means a new logic board.

Like in the actual port itself? No, I dont see any light in there.

Here is what the audio icon looks like when nothing is plugged in.

Do you know what would cause it to get stuck in Optical Mode, if that is what the problem is?

Thanks,

no that's not Celsius. I dont think it is 3rd party apps. Earlier today there was red light coming out of the port, but it dissappeared pretty quickly. I stuck a q-tip inside the port and the light disappeared. The internal audio is working again. Does anyone know what would have caused this?

Thanks,

David
