Bought a new iMac 24" which came with 10.6. My previous G5 had 10.5 and after I sold it I kept my HP ScanJet 3690 scanner. With 10.5 the scanner worked with the HP software AND the Apple software for scanning flawlessly. Now with 10.6 I can't use it any more. The OS stated that the scanner can't be found.

HP's support page ( HP Scanjet 3690 Digital Flatbed Scanner- Download drivers and software - HP Business Support Center ) hasn't been updated for 10.6. A search for the term though shows that there is an article for a 10.6 software update but I searched all of HP's ftp site and there is nothing to find.

Has anyone found at least a workaround solution?

Judging by this page from Apple's website, it doesn't appear that your ScanJet is supported under 10.6. Have you run Software Update to check, just in case? This is the procedure according to that page:

To get software for printers that were not installed during the Mac OS X installation process, choose Software Update from the Apple menu, allow it to complete the process of "Checking for new software", and then connect your printer or add it using the Print & Fax pane of System Preferences. If software for your printer is available through Software Update, you will see a prompt asking if you would like to download and install this software.

I even tried the open source drivers that are on the internet but they see the device but can't send any command to the scanner... no-one can help?... in the whole mac galaxy?...

Sorry. Your ScanJet simply isn't supported in SL. A lot of people got stung by SL like that. It stinks, I know.
