I was removing one of my hard drives from its external enclosure and in the process I touched its underside where the logic board is exposed. Could I have damaged it simply by touching it for a few seconds, aside from static discharge concerns? It seems to be working fine now, and I would hope drives would be more robust than that, but has anyone ever heard of a drive failing because of that alone?

Unless you discharged onto the PCB you have no reason to worry.
