My current Epson 1640SU Photo seems to have gotten a stuck sensor or something. Note the white line:



I'm thinking about either the Epson V500 or the CanoScan 8800F. Both are about CAD$250 locally. I need it to scan in photos, a few medium format negatives, and few kodachromes and a bit of 35 mm negative film too. the Epson has Digital ICE. Not sure what the Canon has.

Do I have to use the Epson software to get Digital ICE?

This is to be used with an Intel iMac running Snow Leopard 10.6, and maybe occasionally PPC Macs running 10.5.

I realize that a dedicated slide/film scanner might be better for 35 mm, but I don't want to buy that too, and for the really critical stuff, I do have some access to one at work.
