so i've got my Lacie ext HD sitting atop one of my Wharfdale speakers and was thinking: 'speakers have magnets in them, don't they?'

will magnets affect a HD's function?

Extremely powerful magnets can muck up a hard drive. Between that and the vibration, I'd move it.

All the little circuits on the bottom of the drive are outside the metal casing. That and the cable connecting it to your computer may have insufficient shielding. And its so easy to move.
