Hi, I would like to know which 22" CRT monitor(s) are equal to or better than the: "LaCie Electron 22 Blue IV CRT Monitor?"

NEC Mitsubishi Diamondtron UWG RDF225WG, an Eizo ColorEdge series or SONY's Artisan.

Note that there aren't any CRT displays currently in production from any of the major vendors. The Lacie was nothing more than a rebranded NEC Mitsubishi. Eizo is only selling LCD monitors and the Sony Artisan has been discontinued for several years. Realistically, the only options for color managed displays are LCD now.

I'm a fan of CRTs because I hate being fixed to a single resolution on LCDs.

How do you mean that? I, admittedly, only have fairly basic knowledge of display types but this confuses me a bit as I've never seen an LCD display that was fixed to a single resolution. Maybe I'm just not understanding what you're getting at.

I think he's trying to point out that there is only one physical resolution on LCDs. You can chose others, but usually this non-native resolution will require interpolation and what you end up with a fuzzy image because of the interpolation's pixel blurring.

The exception is when you chose integer fractions of the native resolution (for example displaying 1280x800 1280x720 on the 27" iMac's native 2560x1600 2560x1440 display).

That's the ACD 30" native resolution, not iMac's

Right. LCDs have a native resolution. If it's big enough, you might be able to get away with running it at half that resolution. Otherwise it looks sh*tty.

I also find it annoying that every damn screen is "widescreen." I'm paying more money for less retail space on my screen.

Sometimes old tech is the best tech. It's funny because once they moved away from CRTs, they have to invent a new resolution independent GUI.

Oh yeah, and get off my lawn! *shakes his cane*

You're absolutely right. Mixed those numbers up. The iMac's is of course 2560x1440.

Gotcha, that makes sense.

Next, can you tell us the story about how your data bits had to travel uphill, in the snow both ways, on your Token Ring?

In all seriousness, it is funny how the "new & the better" does come with those other compromises. Although I do not miss have a 50 lbs glass tube on my desk.

Samsung had developed their Vixlim display, a thin CRT. I was really anxious about the technology, but they never released it. They still have their fancy website, but it hasn't been updated since 2004.

Sigh.

"their fancy website" == an all-flash page, btw. With mandatory music & animations. A warning to anyone who checks it out.

It does look interesting. The product that is.

Well, it was fancy in 2004.
