The search function here sucks so let me ask what must have been asked before. I have an Apple TV. Works great with my photos and watching youtube. I ordered a movie. Up on the screen it told me that the load time was 4 hours!!! I could not cancel so I disconnected. I called Apple support and she said of course the time is 4 hours. Is she correct??? If so why would anyone use AppleTV for movies. I can get the same movie instantly on my cable service or my Dish service. A 4 hour load time makes me think the system was designed by Microsoft. I am using high speed DSL. What am I missing here.

What speed is your DSL? The load time is 100% dependent on how fat your internet pipe is.

Was the movie HD or SD?

I find it can really vary. I've had movies load in as little as a few minutes and as much as being left over-night. And, I think that variance depends as much on your ISP's network performance as it does on Apple's. Once, I ordered a movie over the AppleTV that took several hours to download, yet while it was downloading from Apple I was able to download it in about 30 minutes via bittorrent. Clearly, at that time, the slowness was on Apple's side.

4 hours is about right for an HD video on slow broadband like DSL.
