I got a ViewSonic V2000s for $10 at a computer recycler, plus $30 for a stand. It works 90% of the time just fine, but every now and then it looks like it's stuck in 256 colors regardless of the color depth. It flickers a little bit, too, when it's doing that. I've tested it on different computes when it's doing that, so I know it's the monitor.

Any ideas? I may crack it open and fiddle with it, but I'd like to know where to start.

Smacking it doesn't seem to change anything, so I don't think it's a loose connection.

Awesome, thanks. I hope it's a cheap fix.
