I recently purchased this headset + microphone for recording audio for the online trainings I create for work. I do this in Parallels running XP. I use a Powerpoint plug-in called Articulate Presenter, which is essentially a Powerpoint to Flash converting tool.

After recording my first slide, I immediately heard a ground hum in the recording. I tried switching back over to the Mac and testing recording in Audacity. Same hum.

Googling found a locked forum posting on Logitech's web site (which is why I'm posting here) about people with the exact same problem with a product that Logitech knows has an issue but is still available (I got mine at Fry's in San Jose a couple of months ago). None of the suggestions on the forum helped since this seems to be a hardware issue with the mic, which is something I would not expect with a digital, USB device.

In any case, for those that find this posting, I found that simply touching my MBP's case grounded myself, removing the hum completely, for both Windows and Mac recording. The headset is really nice and playback is really good. It's just the microphone hum that is a problem. I'll live with this for now, but I may get a new headset at some point.

Interesting.
I run 8 Logitech 960 USB headsets at work, connected to desktop PCs - no hums to report.

Do you think it's just a grounding issue with the MBP?

No. The reports on the Logitech forums have the hum occur on all manner of Mac and PC machines. It's a hardware bug, acknowledged by Logitech, but with no possible fix. The fact that the problem was identified over a year ago and the problem headset is still available on the shelves at Fry's is what astounds me.

I have not yet tried to contact Logitech for a replacement.

Oh right. Well if you get a chance to send it back, the 960 is low end & basic, but works.
