I bought a new 27" display, but I stupidly didn't read all the tech specs. It has a Mini Display Port plug and my Mac Pro (early 2008) has a DVI plug. I've heard about Atlona's converter, but even with that, I don't know if my graphics card (ATI Radeon HD 2600) will support the display.

I'm looking for a new graphics card, but I'm not sure what will work with my Mac. My system profiler says I have a PCIe, but a lot of graphics cards with Mini DisplayPorts seem to need PCI express 2.0. How do I know if my PCI is e1.0 or e2.0?

I have an early 2008 Mac Pro 3,1. 2 x 2.8 GHz Quad Core. 2 GB 800 MHz DDR2 FB-DIMM. OS 10.5.8 (which I'll probably have to upgrade to get a new card).

Thanks for any assistance!

PCIe 2.0 is backwards compatible, but you do need the Mac edition of a card, and one that supports 32-bit EFI at that (don't ask what that means). Easiest is to check out the online Applestore - they're pretty good about noting which models are supported - and the second best is probably eBay.

If you mention how much you'd like to spend, we can probably help you better.
The low-end Mac Pro is the most overpriced Mac since the IIvx
