So I found a set of barely used Pioneer 40w speakers buried in the back of my closet. And it just so happens, I need speakers for my mac pro. But these aren't computer speakers, they are "straight" speakers. So I need some kind of amp. Any suggestions? Something small and inexpensive, that puts out 40Wx2. A usb plug for digital audio input would be ideal.

Found this Pyle amp on Amazon. I can't vouch for quality, though. It also comes in a 75w version.

FWIW, you can get digital audio output from most recent Macs by using a 3.55mm Toslink cable with the audio-out port. It provides both digital and analog audio. Of course, this would require finding an amp or receiver with digital inputs, which can be hard to find in what I assume is your price range.

Those amp's wattages are at 4ohms, these speakers I have are 8 ohms. If I remember correctly, that means i'd be getting half the power out of them. These speakers might sound like crap anyway, I need to hook them up to something to give them a listen first.

Finding a low budget amp with digital input seems like a tall order.
You might actually get active speakers for a similar price.

E.g, active studio / multimedia monitors like this, they have S/PDIF ("Toslink") inputs:

Amazon.com: Behringer MS20 Recording Studio Equipment: Musical Instruments
