Hi all

After 15 years of faithful service, my Xante Accel-a-Writer 8300 is being retired. I am the market for a good mid-priced ($400 - $600) laser printer (color or B&W). It needs to be network accessible (ethernet to WiFi router), postscript compatible and economical (replacement toner cartridges that won't break the bank). I've read the Macworld reviews on the Lexmark C544dn which are favorable, however, other reviews and comments say stay away from Lexmark. Reviews on other brands are equally mixed. For example HP printers get high marks, but replacement toner costs are high.

So, do you have any strong recommendations?

No Lexmark!! Unreiiable, poorly made. I have used Brother printers and multifunction devices for years, and they work great. At your price point you can get something heavy duty from them.

I can't say anything about current Lexmarks, but the Lexmark I purchased in 1997 has been my primary laser printer until just last month ... and that only because it's getting too difficult to find computers with parallel ports!

I haven't had any problems with the low-end Lexmark I got five or so years ago.
