problem formatting an external hard drive

i have new seagate 2tb hard drive
but i wish to split it into three
one 1000gb
two 500gb
i tried but it won't do that format
what/how can i do that?

Can you list what you've tried to do and what failed? Assuming you are using Disk Utility, but let us know what steps you are following that fail.

i used the utility software disc utility
i managed to split it into three sections, but they are all equal and i don't know how to make them into itb,and two 500gb sections.
there must be a simple way, but it has so far escaped me
your help appreciated

After splitting 3 ways, click on one of the new partitions. You can drag the borders to change their size, or type in a new size in the info box.
