Hi forum members,
I inherited a Samsung ML4500 Laser printer with Belkin F5U002 USB-Centronics cable adaptor.
Can I use this with my iMac 9.1?
When I try to send print jobs to it the printer fires up but does not give output.
Google shows Belkin came with s/w disk I do not have. Is this necessary?
Is it a print driver problem? Mac does not list the direct driver number, so I tried some near Samsung ones.
Any suggestions please.

That's a USB to parallel port adapter. A parallel port is a very old interface occasionally used on printers, and yes, you would need a driver. There doesn't seem to be a driver for any version of Mac OS X - the driver Belkin makes lists one Samsung printer as compatible, but not yours, and I can't seem to find a recent version to see if it even supports Mac OS X. Your options seem to be:

a) A parallel "print server", ie an adapter that emulates a printer server so you can connect to it with Ethernet (network cable). These used to be fairly common, but noone makes parallel port printers any more.
b) a new printer
The current Mac Pro is the most out-of-date Mac since the Macintosh Portable

Thanks for your message P,
Please understand, I'm an eccentric old cuss who likes to resurrect old things. Hence the Samsung ML4500, parallel, laser printer, which works perfectly when driven from a parallel ported computer.
I chucked my PC for the Mac after it vexed me, too many times! The Mac is a dream in comparison!
Indicative of my geriatric status, my first professional computer experience was using a PDP8, at Tektronix.
I am no computer software wizard. My forte is electronics, so your help is absolutely precious.
Thank you kindly for your suggestions, though I hope to resist buying new printers.
