I have a Brother 1440 laser. Every now and then it prints out my emails smaller than before. Drives me nuts. Anyone have any idea why this is? I don't see any setting in the driver about it. only thing there is resolution which I keep set at 600. Why would an email I print out suddenly come out smaller than the same email I printed last week.
thanks!

Depends on a lot of things... What email program are you using? What is the encoding for the emails that print smaller? If it's just random emails that are printed differently I seriously doubt it's the printer doing it.

Low-end laser printers are like inkjets, in that they don't process pages by themselves, they rely instead on the host computer to do all the work. So whatever is happening to your page, it's on the software level of your computer, not on your printer.

When you select Print, the print dialog shows a preview of what you'll get. As Big Mac said, it's all done in the computer.

Ok guys, appreciate this. But I'm really stumped. I use Entourage 2004.
My website has a contact form that people fill out, and the web host sends me the filled out form, which comes up as an email in Entourage.
I print this form out and then take the stack to the next room to make calls.
Every year the text on the print out get a bit smaller to the point it's getting hard to read.
I've complained to my web host who handles for form, but they blame the printer.
What can I do? I'm totally stumped.
I noticed a decrease in the printed out text just a few days ago. I reprinted the same exact email to test and indeed it came out smaller that the same exact email printed out just last week. Same email.

What does the print preview look like?
Every year the text on the print out get a bit smaller to the point it's getting hard to read.
Maybe it's just you aging. Have you had your eyes checked lately?

By the way, Jeff, this is a sure-fire way to prove that it's not your printer. Print one email to pdf and one to the printer. They should look exactly the same. Now we just have to figure out why it's smaller. And you haven't defined "smaller". Do you mean the font size is smaller, or the entire image is reduced? Posting some sample images would help.

You can set the default font size for plain text messages using Entourage > Preferences... > General Preferences > Fonts.

thanks, the font for plain text messaging is 14, so that is fine.
btw, suddenly email notification is not working, any idea on that? thanks.
thanks Chabig, I did the pdf test, the pdf printouts match the Entourage print out, but it now seems to print back to normal even in Entourage, so may there is some intermittent hiccup, very annoying when it happens though... and it varies in size these printouts from medium, small, larger. Still puzzled. I'm talking font size.

Maybe you have a font conflict. Is it a standard font you're using? Fonts sizes shouldn't fluctuate like that if you as the user aren't doing anything to change them.
