i have a daisy-chain of several HD connected to my MacPro via firewire. In the past they all appeared on the desk-top under the usually internal HD's. one no longer does. it may have not been 'trashed' once on turning the string of drives off,l but it is undamaged and appear under Volumes and appears under disk utilities. Ive tried to repair it but it doesn't need repair
what might I do to get it back on the DT with all the others, as its much more convenient
thanks

I was havin that with one of my drives, also daisy-chained.
IIRC, it was fixed after a restart.
I also toggled "show drives on desktop" in the finder prefs a couple times, I think.

He's suggesting you try the same thing. In the Finder preferences (Finder > Preferences), choose the General tab and toggle the "External disks" setting.
You might also try View > Clean Up By Name
