Ok, I have a few questions about some Newton possabilities that I'm (wishfully) thinking about. I was wondering what kind of storage the newton could use larger than my current 16mb flash media.
I'm asking because I want to 1) store all my avi's background pictures and 2) try to make an MP3 player.
I'm having a fine time busting out small apps with the regular MacOS and just found my copy of newton programming tools. I'm looking to make an mp3 newton app if I can, and i just wanted to do some reasearch first. Is anybody, or has anybody done this thing before?

Check out the FAQ. You can use Linear cards of two kind, probably up to 64 MB. You will soon be able to use ATA cards as well.

Check out UNNA's NewtonDev package if you haven't already.

The latest project should lie somewhere on my FTP server. If you can't find it, drop me a line, I should have it on a backup CD as well.

Sine, I'm sorry to say that you are wrong here. It wasn't doable with the knowledge and the tools we had at that time. Currently, it's a rather simple project for someone who knows NewtonScript and C++ Newton programming. And with ATA cards, it might be quite interesting. However, (a) the best solution would be a TSoundCodec, and for that, nobody knows how to do it yet, and (b) the Newton's sound output is rather poor.
