I've been trying to get the beta but their website only allows 150 users to download at a time.
It's gonna be a while looks like.
But if you do get it please let us know how is runs.
Thanks!

About time they put out a desktop for X. I still run OS 9 so I do not have to upgrade right now.... maybe for my B~day I will get a new mac...
I guess the down loads are super slow , 0.02 k per second.

I've been trying every since it was announced. Now the message comes back that there are 300 users logged in which is the maximum. An hour ago it was 150. So at least more can download.
Hopefully there aren't any serious bugs in it.

There's a mirror site here.
Hope that helps....

I got it. I was actually quite impressed with the software -- it went into my OS 9 stuff and got all of my info, settings, etc. The Palm Desktop seems to work just fine (although there are no noticeable updates).
However, I can't get it to sync. I have a Palm VII, serial cradle, and Keyspan 28X serial-to-USB adapter. I have the current Keyspan driver.
Still, no go. There is no sign whatsoever of any contact between my Mac and the Palm. Completely dead connection despite fiddling with all sorts of settings. The Palm conduit DOES see the Keyspan adapter.
It worked fine under OS 9, but never in OS X through Classic, despite many people having success. I suppose I'll just have to wait a bit longer for the final version -- or if anyone has any suggestions, that would be appreciated.

Well, has anyone got their Palm desktop 4.0 beta to sync with a Palm handheld under OS X? I downloaded 4.0 beta but have not been able to get my Palm and Mac to synchronize. No connection was established through the IrDA port??? It is totally dead.

I can't seem to get my Palm Vx to sync with the new BETA. I'm using a Keyspan PDA adapter with the latest drivers for OS X, and although the adapter shows up in the list of HotSync ports, it won't connect. Not sure what the issue is but I have given up for the time being. I tried all the USB ports, changed the connection speed, etc. The program looks nice, however. Blank, but nice...
Details:
G4 DP 450, 1 GB RAM
Keyspan USB PDA Adapter (Mdl. USA-19) running 101GM driver
OS X 10.1.2 (Classic not running)

My sync wasn't working either with the usb serial adapter, then I unplugged and replugged it and works fine. A simple solution you may have tried but it worked for me.

I have been able to sync my Handspring Visor Deluxe.
The first couple times that I tried it would have the screen come up on the computer but then disappear. Once I quit Classic it then synched without any problem. This was on my work machine (G4/766)
My computer at home (G4/450) had no problem. But I wasn't running Classic.
So far it seems to be acting pretty good. I did notice that some of the lines in my notepad were cut off and moved to another line instead of staying together. Outside of that it's going good. In fact syncing is faster now than before with 2.6.

I finally got my Palm VII to sync through my Keyspan 28X. After fiddling with it for a while, I think that the following did it:
When installed, the Hot Sync Manager has many connections "enabled." Thus, the Sync software "looks" for the palm, in my case, on USB, on a modem connection, on a Palm-to-USB connection, on my Keyspan "1" port, and my Keyspan "2" port. Obviously, my palm is only on one of them.
So I disabled ALL of them (i.e., unchecked the boxes). I then restarted with my Keyspan unplugged.
When I restarted, I plugged in my Keyspan. Then I went to the Hot Sync Manager and selected the ONLY ONE port where my palm was really connected -- my Keyspan "1" port.
It then worked without a hitch. Everything worked just fine, and I think that the sync was actually much faster than under Classic. I checked a number of contacts, calendar items, to-do items, etc., and all seemed to sync just fine. Nothing unusual here.
Since I had spent some time fiddling with settings I'm not exactly sure that this is what finally did it -- but it seemed to work for me! So I'm a happy camper. Now for those conduits for Entourage, etc. . . . :-)

It didn't for me. The ReadMe with the beta says that existing third party conduits are unlikely to work. I tried mine and it didn't -- the hot sync log reported the conduit was either too old or too new!
I have started a thread
http://forums.macnn.com/cgi-bin/ulti...7&t=001747
on MacOS X : Third party software about third party conduits.

What about Mail.app? I remember hearing that it would Sync with mail, but I don't see any documentation with this version.
Cheers!

Apparently, this is not supposed to go public. It is a private beta release meant for palm employees.
No wonder only 150 people were allowed to download at once.
Without IR hotsync, it is useless to me. I don't have a cradle!

Well, I got my Palm IIIxe synchronized with 4.0 beta one time this morning through IR ports right after I re-installed 4.0 beta. However, it does not work anymore. It either freezes my PB G4 667 or never passes "establishing connection". I think that I would wait until "real" 4.0 is released.

Hi,
I managed to download the beta release after 3 hours over a cable connection
The recommendation was to remove the old version of Palm Desktop before proceeding.
I did just that but since Palm Desktop was already running via classic on OS X.I.II, I had to restart on 9.2.2 to ensure that the extension is disabled.
Only after doing that little bit of cleanup that I tried the sync.
It did not seem to work the first few times.
So I opened Hot Sync and voila! It worked!
HOWEVER, I noticed that almost 200+ of my Address records have been duplicated
Looks like there is more cleanup involved now...
