Anyone have comments on this issue?

I gave my wife a Visor last year, but she is annoyed by the fact that there is no synch software for OSX, the batteries die frequently and it is too big. I am thinking about getting her a new PDA and am wondering about one based on PocketPC.

I'm assuming that both Palm and PocketPCs will be able to synch with OSX shortly (I saw a PocketPC synch utility mentioned here). The new visors are smaller than the old ones and have rechargeable batteries.

Anyway, those are my basic concerns but I am looking for people's comments.

I have an iPaq and find it much better than the Visor or Palm in the color department. You will be able to buy software to link your Pocket PC to OSX from http://www.pocketmac.net this week!

While I'm at it, I've been trying to get the Visor running better under OSX. Has anyone been able to get Avantgo to work? I got Avantgo installed on the Visor, but it doesn't synch with the server.

Define - batteries die quickly ?

My batteries last two weeks or so. On a pocketPC I use, batteries don't last near that long, I always have to have a charger for it.

The sync for OS X is coming, don't worry about that.

So my question is, does she need color? The color handspring, or sony models are quite nice. The Pocket PC is nice in it's own way, but it's a different way of doing things than Palm/Handspring.

My vote is, stick with Palm a little longer. If the real hold up is battery life and OS X, get a backup module for the handspring, and use it. Figure out why batteries are dying prematurely (you do have the timeout power off set to 1 minute idle time, right? you don't use backlight all the time, right?) what applications are loaded besides the basic ones- perhaps one is draining the handheld prematurely.
