Hopefully this hasn't already been beat to death here but I don't see any thread like this:

Does anyone here have concrete information about whether and when a mac os X version of Palm Instant Desktop will be released? I want to purchase a palm or handspring, but the native software support is really important.

Palm is moving pretty slow with the mac support. The way it's going so far we will see pocket pc desktop for the mac before we will see palm desktop osX
At least at the Asylum, they treat me with respect.

I too wish they'd come out with Palm Desktop for OS X. I rarely hotsync my Visor anymore because I hate having to start up Classic, but a native version would be wonderful.

Actually, a third party solution for synching Pocket PC with the Mac is already available. It's called "The Missing Sync" (it was called PocketMac during development). However, it only works in 9.x and is not yet Carbonized for X.

It's time for Palm to get off its ass!

PS: See Apple's Mac OS X Applications page for a (verbal) glimpse at what Palm Desktop for X will be like. No fixed date for indroduction, but people have been saying it should be out before the end of the year.

Maybe you should check out this OS X native applicaton at: http://www.chronosnet.com/ It's a $40 application which is a full featured calendar/contact list/organizer which is OS X native and syncs to Palm and Visor. I only have an old Newton 120, but thought I might check out a trial version if they have one to see if I can sync (using the new Keyspan serial-USB OSX driver).

I believe the Chronos product, called Personal Organizer only syncs with classic booted up and the (still buggy after all these years) Palm software installed. Still no OS X total solution. If you don't mind the classic sync, Personal Organizer isn't bad.

Maybe Palm is dragging their feet, because Apple is working on their own PDA.

In which case I hope they don't let Apple "brush-metalize" the palm desktop interface.

sunoxen,

chronosnet states that Personal Organizer is a Carbon application ... which means it works inside OSX ... not the classic environment ...

Does someone use this app? I'd like to have some feedback about it ..

thanks,

-teo.

The Register makes comments on the state of PDAs and Apple. More of summary than anything new (except for one paragraph about potential features of the Palm Desktop for OS X.

Its a good desktop organiser. It runs under OSX as a carbon app but it doesn't sync as a carbon app because they are waiting for Palm to finish carbon hot sync software. You can sync it under classic with the conduit that comes with the classic organiser software.
