I can't say how I know, or give details, but the new thing to be released will be Artificial Intelligence for OS X, in the form of an assistant. Thus the coment on Apple website about the rumor sites being way off, and a backstage pass to the future. This project is code-named Casper.

Hmmmmm....

Casper was already a Mac project codename- for Speech Recognition.

I'm dubious.
OS X: Where software installation doesn't require wizards with shields.

Apple has been known to reuse codenames. It will be called OS Assist, and the idea of codenaming it Casper(as in the friendly Ghost) it's there to help, and be friendly as the Mac OS is and be behind the scenes like a Ghost.

OUCH!

If Apple did something like your personal assistant, as brilliant as the help system in OS 8.5, combined with things like the original Mac tutorial, and expanded it to such things as Cron jobs, etc., and DID IT RIGHT, this "Casper" would rock my world (and probably everybody else's).
Microsoft would then take about three years to resurrect Bob (Bob 05), and then spend another three years trying to get it *right* (Bob 08, Bob 2010 or MX).

My reaction exactly. One of Microsoft's greatest blunders IMHO. I should remember to bring that up next time a PC user starts blabbing about how great Microsoft and it's products are. Of course, with my luck, I'll be talking to one of the 5 people on the planet who actually liked using MS Bob.

CyberDave

Edit 1: Ditto on the Apple already using the Casper code-name. I don't see them reusing it for something like this. But if they pulled it off, it would be pretty cool.

Edit 2: Yay! 100th post! Three stars! Only a year and a half to do it! One 100th the way to reaching Cipher's current mark. At this rate I'll be clinically insane sometime around June, 2149 (if I did the math right) .
