Looks like technology these days are just getting smaller and smaller, and the PDA may become much thinner and slightly smaller or it could turn into a full blown computer.
There's organic LED displays coming to market. They are thinner, not prone to viewing angle, and less fragile. Hard drives are becoming smaller and smaller (think of the iPod's hard drive). FireWire (a truly multi-functional data bus) can be used to connect to many different types of devices. Voice dictation and recognition is much improved. CPUs are getting smaller (relatively). Wireless is everywhere. Memory is smaller and dirt cheap.
So what's stopping from PDAs to become full blown computers?

Ironically, I think the thing stopping PDAs from becoming fully functional computers is their size. PDAs are good for a lot of things. Taking notes, keeping phone numbers, appointments, things like that because those actions don't require very much. A small screen works well for simple data. However when you consider things like Video editing, photo editing, playing 3-D games, and other things really want (or require) a large screen and more flexability than a PDA. I don't see PDAs replacing PCs, complimenting yes (they already do that) maybe it will become the PC which compliments the PDA, but replacing, I don't think it'll happen.

I made a wonderful suggestion of this sort once... what was it called.... pocketMac? something like that. You'd have a set of those groovy digital image dispaly glasses connected to a main section with the HD, processor, battery, and an input device. The input device was up to debate. A trackpad would not be enough.

you'd just go blind as your eye tried to focus on what it percieved was in the distance but was actually an inch away. I always like the idea of something the size of an iPod that was your base station and you could use as a 3g pda out of the house and when your at home it uses your tv, monitor, wall projector whatever as it's screen.
so that'll be some time then???
