I hate everything about Compaq.
I hate everything Compaq does.
I hate everything made by Compaq.
I hate Compaq.

Never mention the iPaq again. Anybody that steals ideas from another company is worthless. That's enough with this forum.

You are the weakest link. Goodbye.

It's really ****ing stupid to compare something that you know little or nothing about to something that's currently on the market.

Yeah, there's more softare for a freaking iPaq than an iBook.

I think the iPaq has more market share than Apple does.

Only *you* would buy an Apple-branded Segway device for $5000 more than you can buy it off Segway.

I'm jumping into the fray, foolishly, I fear, but here goes...

I've spent most of the past 3 or so years developing for Pocket PCs, and the iPaq by far has been the most reliable, solid device I've worked with. (And for the record, I agree with the earlier comment about their desktop systems.) The older 54x Jornadas were a big disappointment for me, but they were inexpensive, and they helped a lot of people get into the PDA market where they otherwise would not have been able to afford it. The Casio devices are also very stable, reliable products. The Amigo device is nice, but doesn't really yet have a lot of market share.

Now, with the new Pocket PC 2002 devices, the playing field seems a bit more even. Both the new iPaqs and the HP Jornadas are both very nice. However, please note that the HP device does have a slightly smaller display and the screen on each one I've seen so far seems darker in the upper left hand corner. However, the iPaq still relies quite a bit on "sleeves", whereas the Jornada does not. Each is good in its own way.

BTW, I have not yet worked with any of the Casio E-200 devices, nor the new Toshiba e570 devices, so I have no opinion to offer on either of those.

Hope this helps...

I'll take that as a compliment, thanks. I could not have put my true perception into better words.

Just make sure you get one with a Jornada serial number SG14400000 or greater. They supposedly don't have the dust under the screen problem. I got that from a ms.pocketpc newsgroup.. just passing it along.

Also, the new casios between a specific serial # had problems, too, so if you're buying on ebay then make sure you ask about the serial number.

Now that M$ has forced PocketPC2002 device developers to use ARM and have certain components, etc.. they're all pretty much the same as long as they have the same specs.

I can't see how people would get those massive sleeves for the iPaq. It makes it huge. According to a pocketpc MVP or whatver, all pocketpc's are lit from one side only but ipaq's light is brighter when on full strength, that's why it looks better full strength, and that's why the battery life is the worst of all of the pocketpc's.

at least with a jornada you can replace the liion battery. also you can get a slightly bigger liion battery that supposedly doubles the batteyr life.

just my 2 cents. i don't hve one but i'm heavily petting them at compusa before i bite.
