So my trusty Handspring Visor (regular) now has a big splotch of dead pixels in the upper right hand corner. I'm wondering what to do. In the meantime it is still usable, but I need to eventually get past this problem.

So my question is, if I didn't Handspring to fix it (they are very good at that by the way), what new one should I buy? What I can't figure is why the Palms (at the Apple Store Online) are so damn expensive. $400 for the thin one (but only $450 for the color version) is way too much when Handspring's Platinum is $100 dollars less.

Which one do you think would be the most sturdy, to prevent yet another screen problem?

I've been so tempted to get the Handspring Prism - I believe Handspring's Color version is $399 with 8mb. The display looks pretty decent on the Prism - though I'm not sure how the screen compares to the Palm, there seems to be more value with a handspring. The best protection for your screen is probably a good case with a flip-over cover - all LCD screens are a little sensitive to pressure but I've never seen a dead pixel on a PDA. You might have been the rare one to get dead pixels.

I wish Apple made something like a Palm but with more power and better screen - a PDA with a mini-HDTV 3" screen with build-in CCD color camera and modem for video calls

When I say "dead pixels" I pretty much mean I probably dropped my backpack on my Visor or something, and it broke the screen partially. I had the face plate on and everything, but it still got smashed.

I broke the actual glass on my Visor before, and Handspring was awesome about shipping me a new one the very next day. I just returned mine in the same box for repairs, for an $80 fee. I'm not sure if I want to drop another $80 on a low end Visor.

Personally I am waiting till the next gen Palms come out with an better Be/Palm hybrid OS and iPaq like hardware.

The current Palms are not more useful then a $.30 notepad and a gameboy.

Exept the Palms cost $400!

"Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh"
