OK, I knew it "wouldn't work with Macs" when I got it, but I still got it anyway... and I'm referring to my fantastic new Sony Clie PEG T415 (the super-thin aluminum one).

web page

Just for kicks, does anyone know if Palm Desktop 4 (for OS X) will sync with a Clie? Does it *really* require Sony-specific software or will it work just like a regular Palm-powered device with standard Palm applications? I don't know if "synching" is in my future, but it very well could be and I don't want to have to use the PCs at school. Is there any other way to connect a Clie with Mac OS X? (and yes, I'm aware of "missing sync" but I was under the impression that it was for OS 9.**)

I realize that if I want to install Sony-specific programs that came bundled with my Clie package (world alarm clock, movie maker, some others) I'll probably have to use a PC, but is it the same for other Palm applications, i.e. ones downloaded from the internet if I can connect using Palm Desktop 4 and OS X (which I'm not sure of)?

Any information would be helpful - otherwise I'm just going to use it as a stand-alone device and live out of sync.

Thanks

I just purchased the Sony Clie 615 after hearing that it would work using the Public Beta Palm Desktop 4 and I love it.

With the software on the disk all you have to do is install the .prc files that are on the CD. I know not all of the programs have the .prc file and are actually Windows executable files, but I didn't see that many. Besides, you can find those software packages online at any Palm Software site.

I found a great link that is specific to Macs and the Clie.
http://homepage.mac.com/cliemacpage/index.html

That should help you get started.

Have fun with your new 415

Actually, Sony has been very quiet about the T-series as being Palm Desktop OS X - beta compatible. I'm happy that they are... now I no longer have to boot to OS 9 just to sync!

I have the Sony Clie and it syncs with my Palm desktop 2.6.3 in Classic, and I know it also will work with the Palm beta for OS X without any special software.

You can install any Palm based software through your hotsync manager. It's only the programs that have corresponding Windows desktop files that would be a problem.

My Sony's been great!
