Are Handspring phasing out the edge? every time I look at there site it is cheaper and on the Europe UK site (there's no specific site for Italy)they have the red one marked as "sold out" rather than out of stock.

I read somewhere that Handspring is getting out of the straight PDA business and going into integration like their new device. So the Edge, Visor, Prism, etc are all on the way out.

The Edge was released in March of last year, so it's obvious that it's about to be replaced. Also note the recent deals on the VisorPrism, I think it's quite likely we'll see a new slim, full function, possibly color, Visor in the near future. Though communicator's like the Treo (which I own) are clearly the future of the company.

The speculation that Handspring is getting out of the Visor-style full function PDA biz is based on comments made by Jeff Hawkins regarding HandSpring's long term plans, this was misinterpreted by some to mean that they were cancelling the visor line, like, tomorrow, but in actuality, it's likely we'll see full-fledged visors for the next three-to-five years.
