Hi all.

I purchased a Newton tonight. As I read the packing information, I'm not getting any CDs with it. So...what am I going to need to get this thing up and running? What kinds of applications am I going to need to get it to do some word processing?

Also...I have a Lucent Wavelan card around the house, and I understand that there are some alpha-level drivers out there.... How well do they work?

Finally, is the Newton compatible with any of the pcmcia compact flash adapters?

Golly I'm excited. I hope this is what I've been looking for.

Cheers
Scott

congrats!
i sold my newt a while ago, so im out of the loop... but check out unna.org. they should have all the software you need. kallisys.net is paul guyot's site; should have the newest version of the ata driver... either than that, just search around the net and you'll find more cool software then you ever thought anyone would create.

cheers

I'm not one to advocate software piracy, but a lot of Newton software is abandonware, so it's a little different. There's a little program out there that I've found useful for using software from a company that has the same initials as a large Texas city with a basketball team that has five letters in the name. That software will create certain things that will allow you to unlock programs. That's all I'm saying. Not that I've used this, just heard about it... Make sure you try and find it.

ohhh.... a riddle.

just remember that the people who are still making newton software are the ones that are really important to support, else there wont be such great advancments in the platform as we've seen lately.

Agreed. Things like ATA support, newtourage, etc. Those all deserve to be supported. Now, how about an OS X native NCU?? That would be great.

Scott,
Hi. I share that excitement

Am waiting for one I bought four days ago. Whole new world and a lot to learn! I feel like I did when I got my first Mac, a Performa 6300 jeez that was like seven years ago.

Yup. Mine is slated to arrive tomorrow. I'm really glad now that I kept my Quadra 650 around the house.... It's the only Mac I have with a serial connection!

Cheers
