Hello. I made the mistake of trying out the Palm OS X Beta, and now my Address Book of many years is just gone-o. My User Data is still there, but Palm Desktop won't recognize it.

I remember years ago there was this application called "CanOpener" where you could manually pick apart any file's text. I just know if I could open my corrupt data file, find the addresses, and cut and paste that data into a User Data file that works, I can fix this.

I already tried ResEdit and I fixed part of it, but not the entire file.

Any advice? Thanks.

Here's what I have done to fix this problem. The important thing is to BACKUP your existing user data information before trying this. The procedure isn't a big deal, but you don't want to screw up anything.

I know that when this happened to me all that I did was made a new HotSync user.

Then go into the File Menu and select Merge...

Find your old user name inside the ~/Documents/Palm/Users/ folder.

In there you'll find your old user name and the new user name that you just created.

Select your old name and select the User Data and then merge it to your new user id. You'll see a progress bar and once it's finished your new user name will have your old data.

I hope that helps. I am heavily medicated on cold medicine so

If you have any other questions, just look back a couple of weeks. There are plenty of people that have had this problem, and have been able to fix it.

Good Luck.

Happy to help out.

I know that I have had the same problem in the past and I was at the same point that you were. If I had hair to rip out, I would have done it

Just like a ton of other people out there, I am happy that Palm put out something for OS X, but it could have been a better application.

Glad to hear that it worked for you.

Kodiakbr,
I tried your solution everything sync except the addresses. Am I missing something? I do see the data on my desktop under the new user name. I know this has been a one year old thread. Please help if you are still out there
It's "Brewed" not "Juiced"
