Today I got a new Clie Peg-N760c with the built-in MP3 player ( http://www.sonystyle.com/micros/clie/models/760.html ) and could not be happier. Before i made the purchase i installed the www.markspace.com missing sync for mac and downloaded the latest palm desktop from www.palm.com. While I could not get it to sync under “classic” because it would state that the “port” was being used by something else but on the brightside everything works and syncs flawless when I boot it up and use palm desktop in mac os 9.2.

Not ony does mp3’s created in itunes transfer without a hitch but I got the G-movie player to work as well. I downloaded the g-movie software that converts quicktime movies into files that can be played on the Clie. This mac g-movie maker (quicktime converter) and new Palm OS -g-movie player software can be had @ http://www.genericmedia.com/download/index2.html while there is a free shareware version it only allows you to play movies that are only 20 secs. long so i paid for the full version and it works great.

I purchased and extra 128mb memory sticks so right now I have all four of thenew Starwars episode 2 trailers and about 10 mp3s right now with more to be added tomorrow (its only taken up like 70mb on the 128mb stick so far)

I am really impressed by the Clie’s sound quality and the screen is the best ive have seen so far on a pda.

The only negatives i have is that I wish it used firewire like the ipod because it can take around 8 minutes to install/sync one mp3 while it would take like 2 seconds on an ipod/firewire.

I really think Apple should come up with something like the Clie 760c but make it with a 10 gig harddrive and firewire support and a faster processor with the new upcomng Palm OS 5.0. While this is all just wishful thinking because would be way to expensive for Apple to make something like this at a reasonable price and battery life would be too short as well.

Maybe Apple should just buy the “Palm OS division” of Palm and take the Palm OS to the next level because the new Clie 760c has given me a taste of the future and the future is good.

i know the question about installing mp3's on the Clie's memory stick is going to be brought up so this is how it works.

I drag and drop mp3 from itunes in osx and place them into the os 9.2 desktop icon within os x. After i drag and drop all the mp3 and movie files into that icon i reboot within the actual mac OS 9.2 (not classic mode) and those files are sitting the os 9.2 desktop. I open palm desktop and just drag and drop all the mp3 into the palm desktop like any other palm app. It states within the "add programs" window if i want to send it to the actual Clie handheld or its memory stick. It automatically defaults to the memory stick for mp3's but you have to manually direct the g-movie files to the memory stick.

The only problem is that it takes like 8 minutes for a 5mb file to tranfer from the desktop to the Clie. (wheres that firewire support when you need it?). During these longer syncing times i just go find something fun to do outside or clean up around the house.

I hope this helps :-)

I forgot to mention that in order to install and play movie files of the actual memory stick you need to download the latest g-movie player for free from http://www.genericmedia.com/download/index2.html Eventhough i just bought a clie 760c yesterday(3/16/02) the g-movie player that on it is already out-dated and it wont recognize g-movie files on the memory stick. When you are at genericmedia.com you should also download a shareware file called < mcfile > http://gxonline.uhome.net/scughk/cli...McFileEng.zip.
as well and download both the new movie player and the <mcfile > to the actual memory stick when syncing with the palm desktop.

The movies play much smoother then the poor music-video samples that Sony uses as demos on the standard 8mb memory stick that comes with the Clie N760c.
