can anyone give any advice as to the best palm software for maps? i'm looking for roadmaps of the state i reside in. i been all over the web and am now totally confused. it seems there are more damn maps for london and the u.k. than there are for cities in the u.s.
and please do not tell me to use avantgo. i was just there and spent 30 mins waiting for one web page to load! i deleted it off the visor and my imac.....

Try Mapopolis. The software is easy to use, the maps are fairly complete, it plays very nicely with a GPS, and you can get a complete road map for anywhere in the US free. I've found their maps to be on par (or better than) other products I've used, and the subscription service makes their "for sell" maps very competitive. However, I'm also interested in more robust map software (GPS compatible, of course.) So, I'd love to hear others opinions.
Cheers!

thanks for the reply. i did find mapopolis and am currently using the free maps available. they are the only one i have found so far that offer maps for my state. i was thinking of using the "pay" maps. are they worth it? oh and any other software that people use and would recommend to use on a daily basis , please post it ....thanks

I would say that the maps for sell are worth it for the town you live in and others you travel to frequently. The street address listings are reasonably accurate so are somewhat useful for finding new stores or houses. For everything else, the free maps are great.
Has anyone tried maps from some of the big atlas companies?
Cheers!

I use Magellan's Map Companion and Nav Companion on my visor, but I think you can only get that with the GPS companion handspring module. IMHO, a palm map gets much more valuable when it has a blinking "you are here" updated via the government's sattelites- otherwise, Palm resolution is just too darn small for me to figure out where I am.
Still waiting for VGA resolution on a PalmOS machine.....

I use the Map Companion software as well. It works well. Although, the redraw rate is really slow when zoomed out (at least, on my Visor Platinum.) Map Companion is produced by MarcoSoft. They also sell Quo Vadis which is very similar to Map Companion. It might also be worth checking out.
I agree with C.J. Moof. The maps are much more useful (and fun) with a GPS.
Cheers!
