I am surprised to not find any comments on the release version of Palm Desktop 4.0, which came out yesterday. I was especially hoping to find impressions on how it works under OS X.

I do hope that the release version does not continue to lose its ability to hotsync using the USB Palm Connect adapter as b77 had. In order to fix that I had to constantly reinstall the beta.

I was also surprised that Palm released the final version without seeding another interim beta to the public. That would have given us some confidence that things were converging on bug-free operation.

That's a result of the Forum's here being down for 2 days.

I tried to install it and it just doesn't plain work. It installed but doesn't sync. It uninstalled my Palm Desktop in OS9.

So, I've switched to syncing with my PC. I couldn't wait any longer. My Palm seems to crash dead every other month and I don't want to take the chance of losing everything.

I deleted the beta manually first and then installed the final released version. It worked perfectly. I hope it continues to work and doesn't stop like the beta did.

Are you using a Keyspan Serial connecter as well? See, I'm not sure if the problem is Palm Desktop or the Keyspan extension. Any clue?

In my case, I guess you can say that Ver 4.0 is an improvment, but not much. Instead of reinstalling as before all that I need to do is restart if my machine was in sleep mode since the last restart. After restarting it seems to work OK until sleep happens again. Logout/login is not enough to bring back hotsync. It's still a disappointment.

Syncs flawlessly with my Visor Prism. However, Handspring is now advising Visor owners to NOT install and use 4.0 until they can put out their own version that is completely compatible with their products. I've synced dozens of times already to test it and haven't had any problems.

Ditto here. Except for one annoying monster. Palm Desktop 4.0 keeps trying to install the Palm OS Installer 3.5.3 (a Palm OS update I assume). And my Prism is only at 3.5.2 h1.5 or whatever the heck the latest dot revision is. So... Have you figured out how to get Palm Desktop 4.0 to knock it off with trying to upgrade the OS on the device via that Installer 3.5.3 every hotsync?

Other, flawless. Like butter...

Yea, you can take the update files out of the 'Palm OS Updates' folder.

Solution: Delete the Palm OS updaters from the Palm desktop folder. Dig it. And PD 4.0 for OS X rocks the desktop brothers and sisters; naysayers jump off.
