with palm nearing bankruptcy, and handspring kicking ass....can the end be near?

i hope so, handspring has supported macs from the start.

and palm has failed to implement usb until usb 2.0 came out practically. so i hope they go bankrupt because they don't deserve to be in business. They don't innovate which makes them like Microsoft. Whereas handsrping is coming out with the treo which makes them apple like.

so is the end near for Palm inc?

Looks like the end of Palm the hardware manufacturer anyway.

Palm the software unit will be around for a long time.

Palm was the Apple of PDA's, they had the whole thing in the palm of their hands - the end to end solution. The only difference is they blew it big time with hardware.

You guys can jump to conclusions so well you might just out-jump Mike. Thought of taking up basketball?

Actually, Palm developers are getting pretty excited right now because RISC-based Palms are going to be shown real soon...

As for Palm hardware vs Handspring hardware, there is no Visor that comes within cooee of the m505 for elegance. It's the most sophisticated piece of metal I've ever handled since a Rolex.

Yeah, the m505 is a very sophisticated piece of metal until USB hotsync spontaneously stops working. Aren't you aware of the thousands of people who are attacking Palm's tech support right now trying to get their units replaced, which have suddenly stopped synching due to a USB power issue?

Check out the threads at palm's website. I point you to a post of mine over at Macworld forums:

To anyone who owns or is considering purchasing a Palm M500 or M505:

There has been a recent development that has been causing these models to cease functionality with regard to hotsync operations. They are just spontaneously ceasing to sync with any USB connection. It is a hardware problem, evidently.

Check the palm website.
This is a WIDESPREAD problem. I couldn't figure it out and didn't realize it was widespread until I checked their message boards.

See my other post entitled "Palm M505 won't hotsync" for more details of the problem.

MAKE SURE YOU RESEARCH THIS BEFORE YOU BUY A PALM!

don't just check out that link; read some of the forum discussions onthe same topic.

And DON'T get a 505
