Hello,
I just run a trial for one of my clients.
He runs a company that basically lives on FileMaker.
As quite a number of users would like to replicate a portion of their vast FMP devlopment on to a Palm/HS/Sony, I did a test using the FMP Mobile.
I am very disappointed.
The client's access the data from a FMP server on their NetBooted machines. As FMP Mobile can only sync on single-user mode databases, it becomes very complex to provide individual users with up-to-date information on their hand helds.
Not only do I need to get a copy of the FMP databases from the server, I also have to change it to single-user and then make the selection of which fields I want to sync. The conduit settings will only remain valid until I have to make an other copy of the databases.
To top all of the above misery of, it is not possible to modify the names of the fields on the hand-held. One would assume that a company as FileMaker Pro knows that field names in larger FMP developments can be very criptic.
I might be missing something here, but I do wonder why FMP Mobile was even awarded a price recently
In a nutshell: the FileMaker Pro Mobile solution is basically useless.
Any news on a new version that actually can be used in an corporate environment?
